About Us
ICOM Acupuncture clinic in East Grinstead has been serving the local community for over 50 years. Established as part of the International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM) in 1972, we have been at our current site on Green Hedges Avenue in East Grinstead (in between Aldi and East Grinstead Tyre service) since 1976.
The International College of Oriental Medicine is a Registered Charity (274066). We are the UK’s oldest Acupuncture training college. Many of the leading figures in the world of Acupuncture trained at our college.
All of the Acupuncturists who practice from our Acupuncture clinic in East Grinstead are graduates of our prestigious Acupuncture training college which guarantees the most thorough training. Many of our practitioners are also members of our teaching staff and/or are supervisors in the student clinics. They are all registered with either the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) or the AAC and are all fully insured.
Our peaceful clinic is within walking distance of East Grinstead station, our newly-refurbished clinic rooms provide a haven of tranquillity. There is plenty of on-site free parking for patients.
What do we offer?
In addition to Acupuncture treatment, we offer Chinese Herbal Medicine, Osteopathy, Counselling and Psychotherapy, Sports and Remedial Massage, Tuina and Aromatherapy Massage and Exercise Coaching. And of course, if you’re inspired to become an Acupuncturist yourself, we offer first class BAAB-accredited Acupuncture training at our college.
Acupuncture treatment is aimed at treating the root cause of a condition as well as the main symptoms. A holistic therapy, traditional Chinese Acupuncture treats the whole person – body and mind. It can be effective treatment for a range of conditions.
Chinese Herbal Medicine can be used as a standalone treatment or in combination with Acupuncture and massage treatment. We avoid the use of modern formulas or formulas containing animal products or endangered species.
A safe and natural approach to healthcare, osteopathy aims to improve the body’s biomechanical function, mobility, and overall health. It is a hands-on therapy that focuses on the musculoskeletal system and the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Counselling helps to resolve negative ways of thinking, looking to build upon a person’s existing resources. Psychotherapy works at a deeper level, helping us to make new sense of old experiences and change past decisions which are having a negative effect on the present.
Sports and Remedial massage is an amalgamation of hands on techniques drawn from Massage, Physiotherapy and Osteopathy. The aim is to choose techniques that promote tissue health when pain or discomfort is felt.
The Aim of Exercise Therapy is to restore your confidence in movement again. The evidence is overwhelming that movement and exercise is more effective than any other individual therapy. This is because you actively learn how to move with more ease and confidence, strengthening up the resilience in your tissues.
Student Clinics
Our onsite Acupuncture Training Clinic at ICOM also serves as a Teaching Clinic – providing superb opportunities for students to observe experienced acupuncturists at work and learn, through direct experience, the practice of acupuncture under the close supervision of experienced Registered Acupuncturists. All of our practitioners are ICOM graduates and excellently placed to demonstrate clinically the theory encountered on the course.
Part of ICOM’s mission is to make Acupuncture treatment accessible to everyone in the community. Very low cost appointments are often available in our student clinic. If you would like to be notified when new student clinic dates are announced, please join our email list here.
