Student Clinics
Appointments are regularly available in our Student Acupuncture Clinics in East Grinstead. Please phone 01342 313106 to book.
Students at ICOM study a three year Acupuncture course (up to five if part time) accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board (BAAB) in connection with the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC). Before they can graduate from the college, each student must gain over 400 hours of clinic experience.
ICOM clinic serves as a teaching clinic for these students which provides them with superb opportunities to observe experienced Acupuncturists at work. It enables them to learn their art, through direct experience and under the close supervision of highly-skilled registered acupuncturists.
Group Sessions (Years 2 & 3)
Group sessions are held with a small group of second or final year Acupuncture students who are fully supervised at all times by an experienced registered Acupuncturist.
Supervised / Trainee Clinic (Final Year Students in Year 3)
These are one-to-one Acupuncture treatments with a final year Acupuncture student who has achieved the required standard of proficiency to be able to treat patients. Treatment is always under the supervision of a highly-experienced registered Acupuncturist.
Testimonials
The student was great – even though it was her exam, she was very attentive, listened to my concerns and provided an excellent treatment. I felt that she had considered all the factors affecting my health and treated me accordingly – I felt great after the treatment – thank you.

What happens during a student acupuncture clinic appointment?
- Students will take a detailed history of your health along with any relevant medical information. They might ask you questions about your diet and your sleep. Anything discussed during the appointment will always remain completely confidential.
- They will ask to see your tongue to help them with their diagnosis.
- You will lie down on a couch and the student will take your pulse.
- The student will present their diagnosis, in Chinese medical terms, and their suggested Acupuncture points to their clinic supervisor (a highly experienced Acupuncture practitioner) who will then help them to decide upon the right treatment. The supervisor will approve the final chosen treatment before the student inserts the Acupuncture needles.
- The student will then insert the Acupuncture needles into the appropriate points for the treatment.
How long do these sessions last?
These sessions last approximately an hour and a half (one-to-one) or two-and-a-half hours (groups).
How much are student clinic appointments?
Appointments in our group clinics are sometimes free. One-to-one appointments are usually £10.
How do I book an appointment in the student Acupuncture clinic?
PLEASE NOTE: Due to variable scheduling, student clinics can only be booked by telephone and not online. Please call our reception on 01342 313 106 to book.
Can I choose which student I see?
As part of their learning, it is very important that our students experience treating a wide variety of conditions and patients. We will try and accommodate individual requests, but it is not always possible to always see the student of your choice.
What happens if I can’t attend my appointment?
The purpose of the student clinics is to enable each student to gain the 400+ hours’ experience they need in order to qualify and to provide low-cost Acupuncture to those who need it. It is therefore important that you attend your appointment and arrive on time.
We do understand that situations may arise when you are unable to attend but please give us at least 48 hours’ notice by calling 01342 313106 if you have to cancel so that we can find another patient to fill the space and benefit from the treatment. We will endeavour to rearrange your appointment but this is not always possible.
Can I be notified when new student clinic dates are announced?
As these appointments are very popular and get booked up fast, you can sign up to our student clinic email list and we will notify you when new dates for clinics become available and when there are last minute appointments we need to fill. Alternatively email the clinic reception for last minute appointments or call 01342 313106 for availability.
Alternatively, you can book an appointment with a registered practitioner at our Acupuncture clinic. For new patients, we offer a free 15 minute conversation with any of our acupuncture practitioners to discuss how Acupuncture could help you.
What other low-cost Acupuncture appointments are available?
As well as our student clinics, we often offer Graduate clinics, which are lower cost appointments with newly qualified practitioners. Phone 01342 313106 for availability.
Appointments are available in our multibed clinic.
I had a very pleasant session. It was my first experience of Acupuncture. The student was professional and made me very comfortable. I hope for good results, I will do a few more sessions and I am confident I will get better.
Exceptional. I felt safe, my input was valued and part of the treatment and most importantly, I see a difference in my physical and mental health after treatment sessions. I learned a lot about my health and Chinese medicine, too. I’m very grateful for this service and will be recommending it wholeheartedly to others. Thank you so much!
I visited the student clinic and throughly enjoyed my treatment. The student was friendly, professional and listened so that she could understand the right treatment.
